Building a Tessellation

ART students are building a SLIDE or ROTATIONAL tessellation for their BIG PROJECT!
They may even include a VOID in their Organic or Geometric design.

STEP 1 ... Label your square (A1, A2, B1, B2)
STEP 2 ... draw your organic (or geometric) shape on the A1 top half side.
REMINDER: start in the corner (top left or right)

STEP 3 ... cut out your A1 shape
Cut carefully along your black line

STEP 4 ... slide the A1 design below your A2 side
LINE UP THE CORNER(S)

STEP 5 ... TAPE the two sides together.
Use very small pieces of tape - one on each side.
DO NOT OVERLAP YOUR SIDES.
Butt them up side x side.

ART 6/7: Who is MC ESCHER? ... Oct 6th

Maurits Cornelis Escher self-portrait  1935

A fun day learning about MC Escher. Here are the two videos we watched:

Students were set 3 tasks today:
1  DRAW the MCE font from the first video ... no more than 3 fingers high in the centre of page 5
outline with a freehand rectangle (no ruler needed). Colour BLACK.

2 After tracing the yellow square on pg5, students were to write the following info creatively inside:
a MCEscher's nationality
b Born/Died (how old was he?)
c Google MCE Fun Facts and list 5 (in point form)

3 After tracing the yellow horizontal rectangle, students were to google Famous Quotes by MCE
THEN they were to create a funky frame around the rectangle, and create their own artsy 'poster' that included one of his famous quotes that they found, read and liked.

IF TIME, students were to check out Tessellation Patterns by MC Escher.

We will continue our lesson tomorrow!

Here's the video about Sonia Delaunay that we watched in class! Thanks for the reminder, Noemie!!

add a sample of her work to page... 2-size choice

can create own or print coloured sample

 BE CREATIVE in presentation

Do NOT use back of PAGE 3

MsP's Sample 1 ... come up with your own layout/version

Sample 2 ... hmm, perhaps I'll type up my FACTS!

I hope you had fun learning about Sonia Delaunay and creating a piece of ABSTRACT artwork inspired by her style of art!

If you are home-schooling, make sure you take a picture of your artwork and your sketchbook page and send to:
